220. Dua in Sujood (Allaahumma Laka Sajadtu wa Laka Aslamtu)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), used to prostrate and say:

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ، وَصَوَّرَهُ، فَأَحْسَنَ صُوْرَتَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ، تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ

Dua in Sujood English Transliteration

Allaahumma laka sajadtu wa laka 'aslamtu, wa bika 'aamantu sajada wajhiya lilladhee khalaqahu, wa sawwarahu fa'ahsana su-ratahu, wa shaqqa sam'ahu wa basarahu, tabaarakAllahu 'ahsanul-khaaliqeen

Dua in Sujood English Translation

O Allah, to You I prostrate myselfm, to You I have submitted, and in You I believe. My face is prostrated to the One Who created it, fashioned it, and gave it hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.

Hadith about the Dua

Arabic Text

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَانَ إِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ، وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ، تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ.

Translation

Ali bin Abi Talib narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ), when he prostrated, used to say: "O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One Who created it and formed it, and brought forth its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators."
