Abu Darda’ narrated: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I am not able to memorize anything from the Qur’an, so teach me something that will suffice me.” He said: “Say: Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil-‘Aliyyil-‘Azim.” The man said: “O Messenger of Allah, that is for Allah, but what is for me?” He said: “Say: Allahumma ighfir li, warhamni, wahdini, wa ‘afini, warzuqni.” Ya’qub (a sub-narrator) said: “In his narration, he said: ‘Wa ‘afini’ once or twice.”
