838. Dua for Distress (Ya hayyu ya qayyum dua)

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say when faced with any misfortune:

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ

Hadith about the Dua

Arabic Text

عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَرَبَهُ أَمْرٌ قَالَ ‏"‏ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Translation

Anas narrated: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was faced with a difficult matter, he would say: "O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help."
