468. Dua for Sneezing

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, If one of you sneezes, let him say:

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Arabic Text

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ‏.‏ وَلْيَقُلْ لَهُ أَخُوهُ أَوْ صَاحِبُهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ فَإِذَا قَالَ لَهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ فَلْيَقُلْ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ ‏"‏‏.‏

Translation

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When one of you sneezes, let him say: 'Alhamdu lillaah (All praise is for Allah),' and let his brother or companion say to him: 'Yarhamuk Allah (May Allah have mercy upon you).' If he says to him, 'Yarhamuk Allah,' then let him say: 'Yahdikum Allah wa yuslihu baalakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your condition).'"
