Dua for the Sick and Dead Person English Transliteration
Allaahummaghfir li walahu, wa a’qibni minhu ‘uqba hasanah
Dua for the Sick and Dead Person English Translation
O Allah, forgive me and him, and compensate me with someone better than him.
Umm Salama (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Whenever you visit the sick or the dead, supplicate for good because angels say" Amen" to whatever you say. She added: When Abu Salama died, I went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, Abu Salama has died. He told me to recite:(The dua is mentioned above) So I said (this), and Allah gave me in exchange Muhammad (ﷺ), who is better for me than him (Abu Salama).
Hadith about the Dua
Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered upon Abu Salamah (after he had died) and his eyes were fixed open, so he closed them and said: "When the soul is taken away, the eyesight follows it." Some of his family wept and wailed, so he said: "Do not supplicate for yourselves except with good, for the angels say 'Ameen' to what you say." Then he said: "O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are rightly guided, and grant him a successor in his descendants who remain. Forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds, and make his grave spacious and illuminate it for him." (Sahih Muslim 920)
