313. Dua for Iftar (Iftar Dua)

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say when he breaks his fast:

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَاءُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوْقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Dua for Iftar English Transliteration

Dhahabadh-dhama'u wabtallatil-'urooqu, wa thabatal-'ajru 'inshaa'Allah

Dua for Iftar English Translation

The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.

Note that, the widely practiced hadith 'Allahumma laka samtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu' but, the hadith is da'if (weak). [2]

Arabic Text

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Translation

Ibn Umar narrated: “When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would break his fast, he would say: ‘The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills (Dhahabadh-dhama’u wabtallatil-‘urooqu, wa thabatal-ajru in sha Allah).’” Abu Dawud 2357 Grading: Hasan (Albani)
