311. Dua of the beginning of fasting

There is no masnun dua at the beginning of fasting. However, it is important to make the intention for fasting the night before the start of fasting. The conscious purpose in the mind is called intention. This is the intention of the believer to fast before fasting, before going to bed at night or during sahri. It is not Sunnah to say "Nawaituan" or to do so in any other way.

Frequently Asked Questions

The dua said when starting the fast is 'wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan.' This means 'I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.' Saying this intention for fasting helps you remember why you’re fasting and keeps your focus on Ramadan’s purpose.
