549. Dua for Patience in Hard Times
Narrated Umm Salama (RA): I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said: If a servant, in the face of adversity, then says:
Dua for Patience English Transliteration
Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji‛oon, Allaahumma’ jurnee fee museebatee, wakhlif lee khayran minhaa
Dua for Patience English Translation
We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return; O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it.
Allah will surely give him something better than that. After the death of Abu Salamah, I recite this du'a according to the instructions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), then Allah has given me better than him, that is, to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Hadith about the Dua
Umm Salamah narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and says what Allah has commanded: 'Indeed we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better,' except that Allah will reward him in his affliction and replace it for him with something better." (Sahih Muslim 918)
