765. Dua for Guidance and Protection from Nafs
Dua for Guidance in Arabic
اَللَّهُمَّ أَلْهِمْنِيْ رُشْدِيْ وَأَعِذْنِيْ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِيْ
Dua for Guidance English Transliteration
Allaahumma alhimni rushdi, wa a-‘idhni min sharri nafsi
Dua for Guidance English Translation
O Allah, inspire me with my guidance, and protect me from harm of myself.
Imran bin Husain (RA) narrated: “The Prophet (ﷺ) said to my father: ‘O Husain, how many deities do you worship?’ He said: ‘Seven. Six in the earth, and one above the heavens.’ He (ﷺ) said: ‘So which of them do you take for your ardent requests and fears?’ He said: ‘The one above the heavens.’ He (ﷺ) said: ‘O Husain, if you would but accept Islam, I would teach you two phrases that would benefit you.’ He said: “So when Husain accepted Islam, he said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me the two phrases you promised me.’ So, he (ﷺ) said: “Say: (The dua is mentioned above)
Hadith about the Dua
Arabic Text
"وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَة مَعَ اخْتِلَافٍ وَفِيهِ: "" وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الصُّمَّ الْبُكْمَ مُلُوكَ الْأَرْضِ فِي خَمْسٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا اللَّهُ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَ:
(إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ) الْآيَة Abu Huraira transmitted it with a difference containing the following: When you see the barefooted, the naked, the deaf, the dumb as kings of the earth, as -well as five things which no one but God knows. Then he recited, ‘‘God has knowledge of the Hour, and He sends down the rain…” (Bukhari and Muslim.) [Hasan (Ibn Hajar). Takhrij Mishkat: 3/24]
