177. Dua To Enter Mosque (Rabbighfirli dhunubi)

Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the mosque he would say Durood. Then Say:

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوْبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Hadith about the Dua

Arabic Text

عَنْ فَضْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ قَالَ: "اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ".

Translation

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he entered the masjid would say: “O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy.” (Allāhumma ighfir lī dhunūbī waftah lī abwāba raḥmatik.)

Frequently Asked Questions

When you enter a mosque, just say bismillah, then send salawat on the Prophet, and after that say, “allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.” Make sure to step in with your right foot. This is the dua before entering masjid that’s recommended.
