735. Dua for Protection from Accidents and Calamities

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray like this:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَدْمِ وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ التَّرَدِّيْ وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرَقِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوْتَ فِي سَبِيْلِكَ مُدْبِرًا وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوْتَ لَدِيْغًا

Allaahumma inni a‛oodhu bika minal-hadmi, wa a‛oodhu bika minat-taraddi, wa a‛oodhu bika minal-gharaqi, wal-‘haraqi wal-harami, Wa a‛oodhu bika an yata-khabbataniyash-shaitaanu ‛indal-mauti, wa a‛oodhu bika an amoota fee sabeelika mudbiran, wa a‛oodhu bika min an amoota la-deegha

Dua for Protection from Accidents English Translation

O Allah I seek refuge in You from [a death caused by] demolition, and I seek refuge in You from [a death caused by] tumbling from a hight, and I seek refuge in You from drowning, [a death caused by] burning [due to fire], old and infirm age. And I seek refuge in You from the deception of the devil at the moments of death, and I seek refuge in You from dying while fleeing [the battlefield] during a battle [fought] in Your sake, and I seek refuge in You from dying from a [venomous] sting.

Hadith about the Dua

Arabic Text

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَدْمِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ التَّرَدِّي، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرَقِ وَالْهَرَمِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ عِندَ الْمَوْتِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ مُدْبِرًا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغًا.

Translation

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from destruction, and I seek refuge in You from falling from a height, and I seek refuge in You from drowning, burning, and senility. And I seek refuge in You from being afflicted by Shaytan at the time of death, and I seek refuge in You from dying while fleeing in Your cause, and I seek refuge in You from dying due to a venomous sting. Abu Dawud narrated: عَنْ أَبِي الْيَسَرِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika wa tahawwuli 'aafiyatika wa fuja'ati niqmatika wa jami'i sakhatika. Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the withdrawing of Your blessing, and the loss of good health, the sudden onset of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. In some hadith about dua, the Prophet would make this dua for protection from sudden troubles.
