445. Islamic Dua for Debt Relief

Even if the burden of debt is like a mountain, (if this dua is recited) Allah will forgive the debt:

اَللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Allaahummak-finee bi 'halaalika ‛an 'haraamika, wa aghninee bi fadlika ‛amman siwaak

Dua for Debt Relief English Translation

O Allah, make what is lawful enough for me, as opposed to what is unlawful, and spare me by Your grace of the need for others.

Arabic Text

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ: أَنَّ مُقَاتِلَ بْنَ سُليْمٍ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ: إِنَّ عَلَيَّ دَيْنًا كَثِيرًا فَعَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا إِذَا قُلْتُهُ أَدَّى اللهُ عَنِّي دَيْنِي، فَقَالَ: قُلْ "اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ".

Translation

Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Muqātil ibn Sulaym came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “A great debt has overwhelmed me, so teach me something that if I say it, Allah will pay off my debt for me.” He said, “Say: O Allah, suffice me with what You have allowed instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You by Your bounty.”
