243. Dua Masura #10

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik (RA) said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and a man was standing and praying. When he bowed, prostrated and recited the tashahhud, he supplicated, and in his supplication he said:

Dua Masura English Translation

O Allah, I ask You as unto You is all praise, none has the right to be worshipped except You, alone, without partner. You are the Benefactor. Originator of the heavens and the Earth, O Possessor of majesty and honour, O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all. I am asking you

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Do you know what he has supplicated with?' They said: "Allah (SWT) and His Messenger know best." He (ﷺ) said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allah by His greatest Name, which, if He is called by it, He responds, and if He is asked by it, He gives.'"

Hadith about the Dua

Translation

Anas bin Malik narrated that he was sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) when a man offered prayer, then supplicated: "O Allah! I ask You as all praise is due to You, there is none worthy of worship except You, the Most Beneficent, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Possessor of majesty and honour, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "He has supplicated to Allah by His Greatest Name, which when He is called upon by it, He responds, and when asked by it, He gives."

Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes, we ask for things in dua that aren’t actually good for us, even if we think they are. Allah knows best, we don’t. If someone asks for something sinful, or something harmful, that dua won’t be accepted. Also, if a person loses patience, eats haram, or tries breaking family ties, their dua can be rejected. That’s mentioned in hadith too.
