128. Dua of Sleeping
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When one of you becomes frightened during sleep, then let him say:
أَعُوْذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ (التَّامَّاتِ) مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَ(مِنْ) شَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُوْنِ
Dua of Sleeping English Transliteration
A'oodhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min ghadhabihi wa 'iqaabihi, wa (min) sharri 'ibaadihi, wa min hamazaatish-shayaateeni wa 'an yahduroon
Dua of Sleeping English Translation
I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves and from the taunts of devils and from their presence.
Hadith about the Dua
Arabic Text
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا أَقُولُ إِذَا أَوَيْتُ إِلَى فِرَاشِي؟ قَالَ: "اقْرَأْ: أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ، وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ".
Abu Hurairah narrated: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what should I say when I go to my bed?" He said, "Recite: I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of devils and from their presence."
