O Allah, surely [name the person] is under Your protection, and in the rope of Your security, so save him from the trial of the grave and from the punishment of the Fire. You fulfill promises and grant rights, so forgive him and have mercy on him. Surely You are Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Hadith about the Dua
O Allah, indeed (so-and-so, son of so-and-so) is under Your protection and within the rope of Your security. So guard him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. You are the One who fulfills promises and grants rights. O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him. Indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. Abu Hurairah narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed over a dead body, then said: He said: "O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honor his arrival and expand his entry, and cleanse him with water, snow, and ice. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire."
