287. Dua when placing the deceased in Grave
Ibn 'Umar (RA) said, "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say this dua when he put the dead body in the grave:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُوْلِ اللَّهِ (ﷺ)

Hadith about the Dua
Arabic Text
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أُدْخِلَ الْمَيِّتُ الْقَبْرَ، قَالَ: " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ " .
Translation
'Abdullah bin Yazid reported: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was placing the deceased in the grave, he would say: "In the name of Allah and upon the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah."

Translation: O Allah, forgive (name of the person) and elevate his station among those who are guided. Send him along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Enlarge for him his grave and shed light upon him in it. This dua is often recited at burials right before the grave is covered, and is part of showing respect during Islamic funeral prayer.
