480. Spread of salutations
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
As-salaamu 'alaykum wara'hmatullaahi wa barakaatuh
Peace be upon you, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings.
By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you of something that will help you to achieve that? Spread (the greeting of) salaam amongst yourselves.` [1] The person who can combine three things, can combines faith- 1. Justice for oneself, 2. Give salaam to everyone in the world, and 3. Give charity despite having few wealth [2] Once a man asked prophet (ﷺ) which deed is best in islam ? prophet (ﷺ) replied that, “To feed people and give salaam to the persons who are known or unknown to you. [3]
481. Returning a greeting to a kaafir
When the people of the Book greet you, reply by saying:
وَعَلَيْكُمْ
وَعَلَيْكُمْ
Wa 'alaykum
And upon you
904. The method of giving Salam
Narrated Imran ibn Husayn: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ
assalaamu ‛alaykum
Peace be upon you!
Another man came and said:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ
assalaamu ‛alaykum wa rahmatullaah
Peace and Allah's mercy be upon you
Another man came and said:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
assalaamu ‛alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh
Peace and Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you
He responded to his Salam. He then sat down. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Ten (rewards).
