Section: Supplicating whilst Performing Ruqyah on Yourself

A person recites the following while performing Ruqyah on himself (or herself):One:بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِ نَفْسِى مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيِنِى وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍى أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ اللَّهُ يَشْفِينِىTransliteration: Bismillaahi arqi nafsi min kulli shay'in yu'dhini wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin hasidin-Allahu yashfini.Translation: "In the name of Allah I perform ruqyah upon myself from everything that harms me and from the evil of every soul, or from every envious eye-may Allah cure me." [See Muslim, no. 2186, where Jibril (As) performed ruqyah on the Messenger (ﷺ).] Two:أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ العَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَنِىTransliteration: As'alullāh al-azeem rabbal-arshil-azeem an yashfiyani.Translation: "I ask Allah, the Magnificent, Lord of the great Throne to cure me." [Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stated: "Whoever visits a sick person whose time of death has not yet come and says in his presence seven times: As'alullāhal- azeem rabbal-arshil-azeem an yashfiyak, Allah relieves him of that illness." (Abu Dawūd, no. 3106)]NOTEThe pronoun can be changed to reflect who the ruqyah is being performed upon. For ruqyah upon oneself then the narrations above would be recited. - Ruqyah addressing you (male), it would be said:بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيْكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيْكَ، مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ، اَللَّهُ يَشْفِيكْ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيْكَTransliteration: Bismillaahi arqik, min kulli shay’in yu’dhik, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasidin. Allahu yashfik, bismillaahi arqik.Translation: In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you. In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you.- Ruqyah addressing you (female), it would be said:بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيِكِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ اللَّهُ يَشْفِيكِTransliteration: Bismillāhi arqeeki min kulli shayin yu'dheeki wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw'aynin hāsidin-Allāhu yashfeeki.- Ruqyah addressing a group you (plural), it would be said:بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيِكُمْ وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ اللَّهُ يَشْفِيكُمْTransliteration: Bismillāhi arqeekum min kulli shayin yu'dheekum wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw'aynin hāsidin -Allāhu yashfeekum.These simple changes can be made to most of the supplications in this booklet to suit the person being addressed, insha'-Allāh.Three:اَللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ اِشْفِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًاTransliteration: Allaahumma Rabban-nas Adhhibil-ba’s, Ishfi wa Antash-Shafi, laa shifa’a illaa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughadiru saqama.Translation: O Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal the patient, for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; healing that will leave behind no ailment. [Bukhari: 5743]Four:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would teach his Companions (Ra), the following words in case they felt alarmed:أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَ(مِنْ) شَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُوْنِTransliteration: A'oodhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min ghadhabihi wa 'iqaabihi, wa (min) sharri 'ibaadihi, wa min hamazaatish-shayaateeni wa 'an yahduroon.Translation: I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves and from the taunts of devils and from their presence. [Abu Dawūd, no. 3893, and graded hasan (good) by Al- Albāni. As for the addition to the wording that is ascribed to ʿAbdullāh Ibn ʿAmr (ra) that he wrote these words down and hung them on his child who had not yet reached puberty― then this narration is weak as stated by Al-Albāni and others.]Five: Recite:أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَّامَّةٍTransliteration: A'oodhu bi kalimaat-illaahit-taammati min kulli shaytaanin, wa haammah, wa min kulli 'aynin laammah.Translation: I commend you to the protection of Allah’s perfect words from every devil, vermin, and every evil eye. [Bukhari: 3371]Six: Recite:أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَTransliteration: A'oodhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaqTranslation: “I seek refuge with the perfect words of Allāh from the evil of what He has created." [Muslim: 2708]Seven: Recite:أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيْعِ الْعَلِيْمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ مِنْ هَمْزِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ وَنَفْثِهِTransliteration: A'udhu Billaahis Sami'il-Alimi minash-Shaytaanir-rajeem, min Hamzihi Wa Nafkhihi wa Nafthih.Translation: I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing and the All-Knowing from the accursed devil, from his madness or evil suggestion (Hamz), from his puffing up (Nafkh), and from his witchcraft (Nafth).
