453. Dua for asking Forgiveness from Allah
Abdullah bin Sarjis (RA) said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "O Messenger of Allah! -
Dua for asking Forgiveness in Arabic
غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ
Dua for asking Forgiveness English Transliteration
Ghafar-Allahu lak
Dua for asking Forgiveness English Translation
May Allah forgive you.
In response, The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
وَلَكَ
Wa lak
Translation
May Allah forgive you too. [1]
When the people heard this, they said, Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) seek forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and also for you all. Then he then recited this verse। [2]
وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
Translation
Ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. (Surah Muhammad 47:19)
