423. Duas for Depression

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Duas for Depression English Transliteration

Allaahumma 'innee 'A'oodhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dhala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal

Duas for Depression English Translation

O Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e. others).

Arabic Text

عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ يَقُولُ ‏"‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Translation

Anas reported: I used to hear him (the Prophet ﷺ) saying, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, cowardice and miserliness, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men." (Sahih al-Bukhari 2893)
