412. Powerful Dua for Debt Relief

اَللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيْ بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Dua for Debt Relief English Translation

O Allah, suffice me with what You have allowed instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You.

Ali (RA) narrated: That a Mukatib came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah so aid me.” He said: “Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sir, Allah would fulfill it for you. He said: (The dua is mentioned above)

Arabic Text

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أَنَّ مُقَاتِلًا، جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُصِيبُ فِي السَّيْفِ وَأَنَا أَتَدَيَّنُ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَلاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ مِثْلُ جَبَلِ صِيرٍ دَيْنًا أَدَّاهُ اللَّهُ عَنْكَ، قُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيْ بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِيْ بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ ‏.

Translation

Ali ibn Abi Talib narrated: A man who was a scribe came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I am often afflicted with hardship and I am burdened with debt." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Shall I not teach you some words which, if you were to have a debt as great as the mountain of Seer, Allah would repay it for you? Say: O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You." (Tirmidhi 3563 — Hasan)
