167. Answer to Adhan and Iqamah
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whenever you hear the Adhaan, say what the Mu'adh-dhin is saying. The Prophet (ﷺ) called both Adhaan and Iqamah as Adhaan. [1]
Here is to be mentioned that, to reply 'Qaadaqaamatissalah' as 'Aqaamaha allahy wa aadaamahaa' - the hadith is weak (Da’eef) [2] So, for replying the iqaamah, the musalli should reply by using same words as the ad’aan.

Benefits of Answer to Adhan and Iqamah
Benefits of responding to Adhan and Iqamah
- When the mu’adhdhin calls the adhan and we answer back, there’s so much amazing sawab hidden there.
- If you repeat all the words from “Allahu akbar…” to “La ilaha illallah” from your heart, you’re basically signing up for Jannah.
- When you say “Ameen” right along with the angels at the end, your past sins get wiped away.
- Right after that, sending blessings on Nabi ﷺ and asking for his wasilah seals the deal for his intercession and raises your rank in Jannah, inshaAllah.
- Waiting for the iqamah and then praying in jama‘ah brings crazy big reward 25 times more than praying alone.
- Every step you take towards the masjid before the iqamah even begins wipes out a sin and raises your status.
- While you’re standing there waiting, angels keep asking Allah to forgive and bless you, so stand firm, join the congregation, and feel that iman boost.
