Section: Duas to be recited for the welfare of others

453. For the one who asks Allah to forgive your sins

Abdullah bin Sarjis (RA) said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "O Messenger of Allah! -

غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ

غَفَرَ اللّٰهُ لَكَ

Ghafar-Allahu lak

Translation

May Allah forgive you.


In response, The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

وَلَكَ

وَلَكَ

Wa lak

Translation

May Allah forgive you too. [1]


When the people heard this, they said, Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) seek forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and also for you all. Then he then recited this verse। [2]

وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

Translation

Ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. (Surah Muhammad 47:19)

454. If someone does a good job for you

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever some good was done to him, and he says:

جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا

جَزَاكَ اللّٰهُ خَيْرًا

JazaakAllahu khayran

Translation

May Allah reward you with good.

Then he has done the most that he can of praise.

455. Protection from the Dajjal

Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal.
